Crossroads’ 13U competitive team, CSA PRIDE ’05 Boys, coached by David De Lapp and Harrison Houle, won Louisiana Soccer Association’s Presidents Cup State Championship this Sunday at Mandeville’s Pelican Park. The boys defeated Shreveport United (4)2-2(2) in penalty kicks after the teams were tied 2-2 after regulation and two overtime periods.
During Presidents Cup state preliminaries (May 5th and 6th), CSA PRIDE defeated LA Fire Juniors (New Orleans), 3-2; Gonzales SC, 2-0; and then tied Shreveport United, 2-2. With two wins and one draw, CSA PRIDE advanced to the State Final Four as the top team in its qualifying group.
In Saturday’s semifinal at Mandeville’s Pelican Park (May 12), the PRIDE defeated Houma-Terrebonne SA Blackhawks, 6-2. Then in the championship final on Sunday, May 13th, the PRIDE celebrated Mother’s Day by defeating Shreveport United for the championship. The state championship was decided by way of kicks from the mark (commonly referred to as “penalty kicks” or “PKs”): the teams were tied 2-2, and then played two overtime period before deciding the game in PKs. PRIDE goalkeeper Ashton Cockerham made two big saves in the shootout to pave the way for Ramez Zeidan to score the game-winning PK. Nicholas De Lapp, John Wold, and Andrew Neely also made their penalty kicks in the shootout.
As a result of winning Louisiana’s Presidents Club, CSA PRIDE ’05 Boys will be traveling to Greenville, South Carolina to take part in U.S Youth Soccer’s Southern (Region III) Presidents Cup Championships, June 12-17. The age group winners of the Southern Presidents Cup advance to compete against the other Region Champions for the National Presidents Cup Championships in Westfield, Indiana, July 11-15.
